Nigerian Wedding Trend: Sequins Do it..

4 Feb

Hello everyone!  So looking back on your responses in 2013, I was a little surprised that you all loved my wedding posts more than all the others. Here’s the thing, I love creating them! I have a lot of fun writing them. At one point last year I considered making this a wedding blog. Restricting my blog to one subject? That could never happen. My mind is far too random. Let’s face it, so is yours! Who likes just one thing?

In the light of the popularity of the wedding side, there will be more inspirational bridal posts in the year 2014. There should always be time in the day to dream! As a result of my resolution, it’s half 3 in the morning(can’t sleep, this is a scheduled post) and I’m typing.

Many west Africans will recognise the above face. She is Tiwa Savage, singer, recently married hottie/babe of life. This was her second dress on her special day. Tiwa definitely didn’t start the trend as I had seen a few sparkly wedded numbers before. But, she is definitely a worthy trend confirmer! I love that she chose a silver toned dress. The key to making this dress a hit and not a miss is picking a colour-way that suits your complexion.

So here’s a little inspiration….

This is one trend that I actually like. But get in there fast. Everyone and their mother will catch on soon enough…..

Splurge Or Save

Team Michael Kors Wren Watch or Team ASOS Chronograph?

I have been in love with this Michael Kors Watch forever! But every time I want to do it, I just put my purse back inside my bag. £229 is a lot but not a CRAZY amount for a watch you’d wear everyday. Never the less in the run up to Christmas, it would wipe out the rest of my present list and then some. ‘Tis the season to give, not buy for oneself!

Think I’ll be ‘saving’ on this one.

Dig Out That Old Tee..

1 Oct

H&M conscious

So it seems that while I was sleeping, the T-Shirt got fabulous.

Many would argue that everything in fashion has already been done and we are only recreating the old. I completely disagree. While we are not creating styles that define the decades are much as before, new themes are emerging. Having looked at the beautiful fashion weeks across the globe happening right now, the street style tells us that something is bubbling. Fashion is now a portrait of opposites. Everything from evening wear with trainers( so very Lily Allen), to a silk lingerie slip dress and a tuxedo jacket.

I have to admit that I have never really been a T-Shirt person. However, I stumbled into a H&M store a month or two ago and fell in love! H&M’S ‘Conscious’ collection celebrates ethical and social responsible clothing. All of that aside, I bought mine primarily because the T-shirt had a ‘C’ on it….C is for Chioma instead 😉 Excuse the bad lighting/Iphone situation…

So in the spirit of trend loving, I have thrown in a plaid skirt, T-Shirt and a couple of other bits and bobs. I hope this inspires you as much as it has me eagerly budgeting my way around these pieces….

Fashion: The best £12.99 I ever spent

24 Aug

The last time you heard from me I was talking about sucking it up and buying a lipstick. This post is about getting over my ‘thing’ about trousers. I find it funny how much my blog has taught me about things that have nothing to do with my blog! Fear of failing and doing something new so often put us of incredible new horizons. Not strange, just human nature.

Seeing me in a pair of trousers is like seeing an Eskimo in flip flops. It just doesn’t happen. For many reasons. The first is the problem that one that faces all curvy girls face with a small waist ,big hips and some butt. Nothing fits quite right and everything seems a bit clown-ish. Most fitting my bottom half but loose at the waist. The only thing missing from most trousers I try on are braces and a clown hat. Resulting in a wardrobe full of dresses!

I walked into Zara one day determined to find a pair of trousers. Having scoured the entire store I couldn’t believe it when I saw these trousers. The shock continued to the changing room when I found out they fit. Zara do statement pieces like these trousers so well. Down from £50 to £12.99, bargain!

Beauty: Mac Ruby Woo Review

21 Aug

When I was younger I got the impression that all elegant ladies wore lipsticks, heels and trench coats. Hence I decided that when I got older and more mature I would get my first lipstick and it had to be red. I did get a red lipstick but not much maturity.

Mac ‘s ‘Ruby Woo’.This is one of those products that EVERY blogger , Tom, Dick and Harry has! I am a bit of a rebel and bore in mind that I already had one red lipstick from Clinique. It had a glossy finish so resembled a very highly pigmented lipgloss. A little bit of a cop out but a great starter for my 19 year old mind. I didn’t see the need to get another red lipstick.  However, after giving the lipstick away I was left with a void. Having looked high and low I realised it ws time to face my fear and go for a matte colour. Looking for a blue toned red was suprisingly difficult and I now understand why ‘Ruby Woo’ is such a favourite.

It suits so many skin tones and has incredibly colour pay off!  I made up my mind to pick up one while I was in New York City as a little treat 🙂

My only issue with this lipstick is that while it has great staying power it transfers and bleeds quite a lot. For me, I couldn’t wear it without lip liner, and everything my lips brushed on got some red action! I’m all up for making a lasting impression but I was kinda careful about the angles and physics of my hugs ha! I don’t wear a full face of a make up crazy often. I am not used to it so you have to factor that in. All in all I am crazy about the colour, I can figure out a lip primer later….
